Building quality homes since 1984

Welcome to Somenos Construction

Founded in 1984, Somenos Construction builds custom homes, completes renovations, and delivers commercial projects across the Cowichan Valley. We're a local, owner‑operated team focused on quality work and clear communication.

Meet the Somenos Crew

Our team is the heart of Somenos Construction, and truly the reason our clients leave glowing reviews. Many of our crew members have worked together for decades, creating a seamless workflow and deep understanding of our values and quality standards. We blend this experience with fresh perspectives from younger team members, and we're committed to ongoing education in the latest building practices and sustainable technologies.

Relationships

We consider ourselves craftsmen, blending old-world skills and knowledge with new-world technology and design. Our strong, decades-long relationships with employees, key sub-trades, and suppliers mean we can control project outcomes more reliably.

Our values & beliefs

Straightforward Honesty

We communicate clearly and set realistic expectations — no overpromising, no glossing over challenges. If something isn't feasible or advisable, we explain why and work with clients to find the best solution.

Pride in Craft

We approach every project with care and attention to detail, as if building for our own families. We avoid shortcuts and ensure issues are addressed properly, not just patched over.

Local Insight, Not One-Size-Fits-All

We draw on decades of experience in the Cowichan Valley to recommend what truly works here. We avoid generic solutions and always consider local conditions, regulations, and best practices.

Long-Term Teamwork

We believe consistent quality comes from a stable, experienced team. We invest in long-term relationships with our staff and trades, avoiding the pitfalls of high turnover common in the industry.

Transparent Process

We provide detailed, open billing and keep clients informed at every stage. We avoid hidden fees, vague estimates, and last-minute surprises.

Quality Over Haste

We prioritize doing the job right over rushing to completion. We avoid unrealistic timelines and ensure quality isn't sacrificed for speed.

Genuine Sustainability

We use energy-efficient and sustainable methods because they make sense for our clients and the environment — not just for marketing. We avoid empty 'green' claims and only promise what we can deliver.

Our mission

Build with care, communicate clearly, and deliver on time and on budget.

The bitterness of poor quality lingers long after the sweetness of low cost is forgotten.

Benjamin Franklin

It was a genuine pleasure to work with every person employed or contracted by Somenos and their efforts are reflected in the enjoyment we feel each time we jump into our pool or entertain friends and family at the pool house. Huge thanks to all!

John Innis & Megan O’Hara

D’Arcy and his team were amazing. The energy, kindness and inclusiveness from each team member was so refreshing. We enjoyed every day observing the construction, sharing stories and laughter with the team. Absolutely highly recommended!

Lori & Ernie Hamilton

Over the last 4 years, Somenos Construction, has rebuilt our 100 year old home. The level of commitment and competency they brought to our project was exceptional. The crew does first class work, and we would highly recommend Somenos.

Tim Wyman & Susan Scott-Gabe

We are very happy with the project from design to finish and are pleased that the process went smoothly from the start.

Wayne Gourlay & Lynn Crowe

Our working relationship with D'Arcy and his team has been wonderful. I can't say enough about the professionalism and the easy, relaxed manner in which they approach the many decisions that they need us to make.

Bryan & Heather Emslie

Their practical knowledge and experience in working with the designer and myself proved to be of great value, and was a critical part in keeping the project on time and on budget.

Barry Waters

Trudy (designer) is professional, prompt, and has an eye for detail. She listened to what we wanted and put our ideas to paper, providing alternate ideas and suggestions.

Moira & Doug Hauk

D'Arcy and his team, as well as the various Somenos sub-contractors & suppliers, were excellent to work with. Their craftsmanship, integrity and attention to detail exceeded our expectations.

Cindy Garneau & Jeff Dalgliesh

We are so pleased and satisfied with every aspect of our new home. Everything is perfect.

Bob & Claire Vey

We are really proud of the final result of our stylish duplex and Somenos Construction made it happen for us.
